Stereotypically, school lunches are referred to as “barely food” by online users, but FCHS’s cafeteria food exceeds some students’ expectations.
“I never got why people always hate on the school food. I feel like I’ve always really liked it. I always look forward to it, both lunch and breakfast,” said senior Kyle Harris.
While people may debate whether cafeteria food is good, one of the more interesting conversations you may hear around the school is whether the FCHS school lunch or breakfast is better.
“I really prefer the school lunch. I just feel like there is more variety, and there are more savory things. I personally prefer savory things over sweet things. My absolute favorite food that they serve is the taco salad. I like putting all the ingredients in my bag of chips, mixing them together, and eating them out of the bag,” said 8th grader Calvin Bowes.
“I’m team lunch all the way. I usually come to school really late, so I never get to eat breakfast here, but even then, I would still probably prefer lunch. Some of it isn’t my favorite, but they do a really good job of making everything consistent, and I like being able to drink soda with my meals. My favorite thing they serve is definitely the popcorn chicken, just because they give you a lot of chicken, and they give you honey mustard and BBQ sauce,” said senior Zach Carter.
Junior Madelyn Grout has a different viewpoint, preferring the school’s breakfast.
“I’m a vegetarian, so I can’t eat a whole lot from the lunch menu, but whenever there are biscuits for breakfast, they always have the egg and cheese biscuit that I can eat…It’s also just a good way to start the morning.”
How do these comments stack up in a recent @fchsjournalism poll on Instagram? The poll found that 60% of students polled said they preferred the school lunch over the school breakfast. In a second poll asking students what their favorite FCHS lunch meal was, the most popular choice was taco salad with 41%, followed by chicken wings at 31%.
