The 2025 college baseball season started a few weeks ago, and early season statistics are revealing a lot about which teams could dominate this year. The Southeastern Conference (SEC) is controlling most of the top ten spots as in previous years, with some standout teams to look out for being the Louisiana State University (LSU) Tigers, the Florida Gators, and the Tennessee Volunteers.
For years, the LSU Tigers have been a powerhouse in college baseball, and this year seems no different. LSU has many star players this season, like catcher Cade Arrambide and pitcher William Schmidt. In the past, LSU had star pitcher Paul Skeens to help them, but this is their second season without him, and thanks to these newcomers, they are still doing just as well, making LSU likely to be a top contender throughout the rest of the season.
The Florida Gators are also ready to be one of the top baseball teams this year. With pitcher Liam Peterson, their competition faces stiff odds, as Peterson has already struck out 16 batters and allowed not a single run. The Gators also have catcher Brody Donay, whose batting average is 0.524. With these star players and more, the Florida Gators are a scary team to go against.
As for the Tennessee Volunteers, they have been steadily getting better and rising through the ranks. Last year, the Volunteers made it to Omaha, which is where the Men’s College World Series is held. With a loaded infield, the Tennessee Volunteers appear likely to make a competitive team this year.
As the 2025 college baseball season continues, it will be interesting to see where these teams could end up. Since they are in the SEC, they have a tougher schedule compared to other schools because of the increased competition in the conference, but they have the teams to help them. They will have strong competition like Florida State and Clemson. It will be entertaining to see if any of these teams have what it takes to make it to the College World Series, but it’s still anyone’s game.
