Cross Country

Concluding an outstanding cross country season, Sophomore Saige Haney placed 24th overall at the State Cross Country meet on Nov. 11. She had a time of 20:09, while Senior Jackie Rodriguez placed 58th with a time of 21:47.

Forensics

In their second competition of the season, the Forensics team competed at the Nov. 12 CFL (Catholic Forensics League) tournament at Madison County High School. After winning their last tournament on Nov. 5, the Flucos were hoping to clean house, but it did not turn out as expected. “It was a wakeup call,” said Forensics Coach Craig Edgerton, who said the team came in 10th out of 15 teams. A total of 13 students competed in five categories, and out of those 13 students, two made it into the top 5:

Eva McGehee placed 5th in Original Oratory

Hollyn Pleasants and Halley Smith placed 5th in Extemp

Dasia Watkins tied for 4th/5th in Original Oratory

Cameron Taylor tied for 5th in Dramatic Performance;

Danielle Sumner got a “1” in OI

Delaney Kerry Murphy-Hammond got a “1” in Declamation

The Flucos will compete again on Dec. 8 at Turner Ashby and on Dec. 10 at Fluvanna.

Scholastic Bowl

The FCHS Academic Team took on Powhatan, Western, and Orange in a competition on Nov. 16. “It’s like Jeopardy, but against other schools,” said Coach Jimmy Small. Although they were missing about half of the team due to a band rehearsal, the Flucos beat Orange, but fell to Western and Powhatan. The next competition will take place on Nov. 30.
