Indoor Track Feb. 10-22

With the end of the season approaching, the Fluvanna Indoor Track team is finishing on a positive note. At the Conference Meet on Feb. 12, the girls’ team had many standout performances.  Hannah Meador won the girls’ pole-vault, Nicole Douma was Conference Champ in the 1600 and 1000, and Emily Haden placed an impressive second place in the shot-put. Overall, the girls’ team came in second place in the Conference and many moved on to Reg.

The boys’ team had its own victories. For example, Deiondre Key won the shot-put, while the 4×800 relay team of Andy Guess, James Byram, Austin Early, and Andrew Sherman made Conference Champs. In addition, Kyle Jenkins got second place in the 55 hurdles while Dylon Garrett was runner up in the pole vault. As a whole, the team placed third at the Conference Meet.

At the Regional North 4A Championship on Feb. 22, highlights included Hannah Meador winning pole vault and Douma placing fourth in the 1600 and fifth in the 3200. Both the 4×200 and 4×400 relay teams consisting of Brooke Haislip, Rachel Devore, Tiffani Shaheen, Helen Wood and Meador moved on to States.

As for the boys’, Deiondre Key placed second in the shot-put, Kashawn Anderson was fourth in the high-jump, Dylon Garrett was fourth in the pole-vault and Jesse VanDyke placed sixth in the long jump. “The feeling of making it to States is almost indescribable. Working hard all season and seeing your results improve is huge accomplishment,” said VanDyke.

The VHSL State Meet will be held on Feb. 28 and March 1.
