Volleyball– October 25-29
The Lady Flucos’ Varsity volleyball team continued their winning streak, winning both games last week. The girls went home with a victory Oct. 29 over the Charlottesville, besting the Knights by a score of 3-0. Two days later the team also celebrated a big win over the Western Warriors for the second time this season.
“It felt amazing to beat Western, especially because it was my senior year. We’ve always had the ability to beat them, but have never actually done it before this year. The fact that we beat them twice this season is evidence to the fact of how much we’re improving as a team,” said senior Emily Haden. In addition to the team’s big wins, one notable event of the week was that junior Maddy Kline was named Jefferson District Player of the year. Emily Haden made First Team All District, and Leslie Walters and Katie Stutz made Second Team All District. The varsity squad next prepared to play at home in the Semi Finals of the Conference 23 Tournament on Nov. 5.
As for the JV volleyball team, they did their best to match their big sisters’ victory against the Charlottesville Knights by winning two out of three matches at the Oct. 29 game. “We gave it our all,” said freshman Ema Graham. The girls faced Western for their last game Oct. 31, unfortunately losing two out of three matches. “The team was teary-eyed knowing it was our last game, but we played with pride,” said Graham. “We all got along and did pretty well this season,” said Captain Brittney Koczan.
