Cross Country– October 14-18
The girls’ cross country team took their starting positions on Oct 16 against Powhatan and Louisa on the Flucos’ home turf of Pleasant Grove. As their last home meet it was also Senior Night, as the team honored six seniors. The team came in first place, adding to their collection of season wins.
“We did good and were improving a lot and even growing as a team,” said sophomore Brooke Coleman.
The top runners for the night were Nikki Douma, Devon Burger, and Bridget Bossong with times of 20:14, 21;18, and 23:24 respectively. Overall, Douma placed first, Burger placed second and Bossong placed fifth.
Unlike their Lady Fluco counterparts, the boys’ team has no seniors to honor this year; it is still a fairly young team with developing talent. As a result, the team came in third overall against Louisa and Powhatan despite having the three top runners in the meet: Travis Moe, Andy Guess, and Christian Hoffman, who had respective times of 17:40, 19:20, and 19:37.
“We’re progressing really well since the beginning of the season started,” said sophomore James Byram who, like many runners on the team, is remaining positive and focusing on the long-term view. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams will participate in a district meet on Oct. 23rd.
