On March 3 and 4, the FCHS indoor track team sent seven Fluco athletes to Liberty University to compete at States. According to Coach Melanie Kennedy, the athletes competed in “arguably one of the toughest brackets in the state of Virginia.” All of the athletes either placed well or got a new personal record.
Garrett Jordan gained a big honor by being the state champion in the boys 300m where he ran a time of 34.74 seconds. He was the only athlete in the meet who broke 35 seconds. Garrett also competed in the 55m preliminaries, qualifying on March 3 for the finals and getting a personal best time of 6.55 seconds. Overall, he placed 6th in the state for 55m preliminaries.
Senior Jackson Fields, who ran a personal best time of 35.71 seconds in the 300m dash, placed 7th place overall in the state. Meanwhile, the boys 4×200 team ran a 1:31.07, earning them 5th place. This was a tight race given that the top eight teams were separated by less than a second.
From the FCHS Facebook page, “Ethan McPherson had an incredible day at the pole vault.” He gained a personal record of 12-6, which placed him in 9th.
The distance team did great as well. Ruby Fraizer ran a time of 5:03 in the 1600m race. This placed her in 2nd place. She also competed in the 3200m race, where she placed 8th. Jack Jeffries competed in the 1600m race, where he placed 8th with a personal best time of 4:28. He also ran the 3200m race, where he placed 19th.
