Once a year, FCHS holds its annual Read-A-Thon, allowing students to leave their classes to gather in the library and spend part of a class, or even all day, reading. This year’s Read-A-Thon on March 5 had dozens of student participants.
FCHS librarians Ann Jennings and Shannon Taylor hold the annual event to raise money for new books and to improve the library. Students could purchase reading time at $2 per half a block, $4 per whole block, or $15 for the whole day in the library. This year’s Read-A-Thon raised a total of $315. The new books purchased will be used for the library’s Book Club which meets during Fluco WIN every Wednesday.
The event not only raised money for the library, but also provided an activity for students who love reading, giving them time to enjoy a quiet, comfortable space and a wide variety of books to choose from.
“It’s amazing how much focus I see when kids read a good book,” said Jennings.
