Want to do something to help others? Consider donating blood at the Feb. 17 blood drive at FCHS.
According to the Blood Bank of Alaska, one person needs a blood transfusion every two seconds. 4.5 million Americans need a blood transfusion every year. Unfortunately, the American Red Cross and other blood donation agencies are now facing a shortage in blood donors.
To encourage people to donate blood, the Red Cross has teamed up with the NFL. Every donor who gives blood or platelets during National Blood Donor Month (January) will get entered into a Super Bowl tickets giveaway. The giveaway includes two tickets to the game, pre-game activities, $1000 for expenses, and covered airfare and lodging. Those interested in donating blood and being entered into this giveaway should visit this link and find drives in their area during the month of January.
The January Red Cross Blood Drive at FCHS has been rescheduled for February. It will be held on Saturday, February 17 in the Auxiliary Gym. The Red Cross Club is partnering with the African American Studies club to host the drive in honor of Black History Month. Donors must be at least 16 years of age and in good health. Donors under the age of 18 must have a signed parental permission slip. Schedule your appointment here or contact any member of the FCHS Red Cross club to sign up.
For more information or to pick up a permission slip, email [email protected] or visit EMT teacher Sharon Payne in Room 1416.
