A number of FCHS culinary students were given the opportunity to submit their baked goods for judging at the Virgina State Fair held Sept. 22 through Oct. 1 in Doswell County, VA.
“I think participating in competitions is overall a good learning experience for all students. Whether they win or lose, they can walk away feeling accomplished,” said FCHS culinary instructor Chef Jonnay Grooms.
The following students placed in the competition:
Claire Cook – 1st place & best overall for youth culinary arts (Speciality Cake)
Christine Ireland- 1st place (Nut or Nut Butter Cookies-Peanut Butter Cookies)
Carly Brown – 2nd place (Cakes-Chocolate Cake with Pumpkin Frosting)
Caleb Walker – 2nd place (Yeast Bread)
Megan Osteen – 2nd place (Quick Breads-Raspberry Cheesecake Muffins)
Haley Morris – 3rd place (Quick Breads-Apple Cinnamon Scones)
Thomas Killmeyer – 3rd place (Pies-Pumpkin Pie)
