FCHS Homecoming Parade Float Contest Seeks Entries
This year’s homecoming parade is coming up, and it is time to prepare. The parade has always been a favorite of Fluvanna students — a short trip around the Fluvanna parking lot where various floats throw candy and promote their causes. As if that isn’t exciting enough, there’s now a Float Contest to spice up the parade with some competition.
This year’s contest will be hosted by the Fluvanna Education Foundation, a non-profit organization whose goal is to support the development of Fluvanna schools by teaming up with the SGA and local businesses. The rules of the contest are simple: teams must design a float based on certain criteria to win a cash prize. The categories include: Best Use of Recycled Materials Float, Best Fluvanna Spirit Float, Best Use of Illumination Float, Best Homecoming Themed Float (Mardi Gras), Most Spectacular Non-Profit Community Group Float, and the Grand Champion Float.
On Sept. 18, students and their floats must line up at the bus ramp at 5:30 pm. The contestants will be judged at 6 pm at the start of the parade. To register, contact David Small or Christopher Dean at the email addresses at the bottom of this article. The grand prize is $300.
