3 Helpful Tools for Virtual Students
With classes being virtual, it can be hard to keep tabs on when assignments are due and for which class. However, the following tools can provide students with some help and relief from the pressures of online learning.
Google calendar
On Chromebooks, students can utilize Google Calendar to stay organized with important events, deadlines, and appointments. The website is free to use and is linked through students’ Google accounts. It color codes your classes and automatically marks when any work in Google Classroom is due. You can also add other items to the calendar such as doctor appointments, sports practices, band practices, and more.
Google Calendar has a 4.6 out of 5 star review with many reviews saying the app is helpful, although some complain that it can lag from time to time.
Grammarly
Another helpful tool for students is a Chrome extension and app called Grammarly. Students can join using their Google account, or Apple ID if they have one. Grammarly corrects punctuation, spelling, and grammar, among other things used to proof and organize papers or emails. This extension has a 4.3 out of 5 star rating on the Chrome Web Store.
While numerous reviews say that the spellcheck is helpful for essays, others say that it can become quite tedious in regards to abbreviations or when writing time and dates. Still others say that its functions can be limited unless you upgrade to the paid version. However, Grammarly can be helpful for additional reassurance with writing or when you’re in a hurry.
Evernote
Evernote is an app for downloading on IOS and Android devices. This app helps students take notes or give notifications for due dates. On this app, students can add reminders, record audios, create notes, sketch, scan documents, and make to-do lists. This can be helpful for students who may not like writing notes or students who can’t keep up with an instructor’s lesson.
Evernote has a 4.3 out of 5 star rating on the Apple App Store. Many reviews state that the app is easy to use, works on multiple platforms, and has become essential for everyday life.
