Hearthstone: A Card Game For Everyone
There are many popular trading card games that have dominated people’s lives, and Hearthstone has made a huge impact. An online, free-to-play card game made by Blizzard Inc., Hearthstone entered the gaming world last year. The game gives the player the choice of nine World of Warcraft heroes, each with an unique ability, and a collection of cards to craft a deck. The player uses a wide variety of minions, weapons, and spells to lower their opponent’s health from 30 to 0 in order to win.
This may seem simple at first, but Hearthstone does things differently from the run-of-the-mill card game. In most trading card games, players will pay money in order to purchase cards, decks, and packs in order to build up their collection. In Hearthstone, while one can purchase packs and expansions, it is entirely possible to play for free by earning in-game money to purchase card packs. Also, if a player has cards they have no intention of playing, they can “disenchant” their cards for “Arcane Dust” that can be used to craft cards they want. Going the free-to-play route can seem difficult at first, however, once a player starts building up their collection and gains experience, even budget decks can beat expensive ones.
Since all you have to do with Hearthstone is download and play, it’s easy to devote hours of time playing while sitting in your favorite chair at home. Although it may seem easy to jump into the game, it is worth noting that, as with many card games, there is usually a learning curve for new players as it takes a while to memorize the many cards, decks, and strategies that come with them. However, I wouldn’t let that discourage you: There are many expert players that give advice to newer players on YouTube or online articles. These players can give general advice, from learning the basics to countering popular decks.
If you feel like you’re ready to test your skill against the best of the best, there are many online tournaments in which to participate. Some are free to play while others require a cash entry. Once you’ve done well in a few open registration tournaments, you can be invited to exclusive tournaments with more experienced players and a higher grand prize. The 2015 Hearthstone World Championship begins in late fall with a grand prize of $100,000.
Hearthstone is an addictive and fun game that will help quench the thirst for challenges and give you a way to kill some time. Unless you want to make purchases, Hearthstone is free to play, so if you don’t think it’s your cup of tea, there’s no financial loss. If you enjoy games full of strategy and challenges, give Hearthstone a go and see if you can become a legend.
