While FCHS teacher Christine Kreitzman is a well-known face at Fluvanna, having taught at the school for nearly two decades, there’s more to her story than meets the eye. Over her 17 years at the school, Kreitzman has been a key part of helping students grow and succeed in the world of digital applications.
Kreitzman grew up on Long Island, NY, and ran track and played softball in high school. During college, she worked at offices and hospitals, originally planning to become a marine biologist. Later, she went to college for business, then transferred and got her master’s in education.
“When I did my student teaching, I fell in love with it, and that was it,” she explained. As her love for teaching grew, she decided to become a business teacher because she already had a business degree.
Kreitzman said her favorite thing about teaching is the bond it allows her to create with students. “I had a student walk in one day, look at me, and say, “‘Wow, you’re tiny!’ That cracked me up,” she said.
Along with teaching, Kreitzman is also the head of the FCHS “Future Business Leaders of America” (FBLA) club where she manages fundraising and FBLA competitions while striving to be a light for her students.
“Mrs. Kreitzman is fun to talk to and teaches us how to do many things. My favorite thing to do with her is planning and setting up events,” said junior and FBLA president Brandon Rougie. Rougie has been in FBLA for four years and has worked closely with Kreitzman during that time.
One focus of FBLA is to learn responsibility and how to be a leader. “I’ve learned how to lead a group better, how to plan ahead, and be prepared. She has taught me that being a leader means being respectful and responsible,” said Rougie.
Even as a teacher, Kreitzman says she also learns a great deal from participating in FBLA. “I think that I’ve learned to have a little more patience, to slow down, and enjoy the moment,” she said.
