For more than a decade, the Journalism, Art, and Creative Writing classes have had the opportunity to get published in the annual FCHS Literary Magazine. Started in 2005, the inaugural magazine featured work from 16 prose, poem, and art contributors.

As the years went on, the magazine expanded to the point where it now showcases the work of nearly 40 students’ work. “We’ve been publishing FCHS magazines for about a dozen years now and I think it’s a great way to get students published. There is something about students seeing their work in print that inspires them to keep going with writing and art,” said Journalism Advisor and Literary Magazine Publisher Elizabeth Pellicane.

The FCHS Literary Magazine Club plays a major role in making sure this annual project makes it into publication. Sponsored by Pellicane, the club members– with the help of Pellicane’s Journalism students– review art, poetry and prose submissions and decide which creative work makes it into the magazine, as well as oversee the magazine’s design, layout, and production.

While the magazine has traditionally just been called the FCHS “Lit Mag” throughout the years, the 2017 club voted to change the magazine name to “Undefined.” “We had such a wide range of people submitting things that there was no label that fit other than ‘undefined’,” said club member Payton Day.

Students featured in the magazine, as well as club members and editors will receive copies of the magazine, along with an invitation to attend the reading of the magazine on May 17 during second block.

“The Lit Mag turned out amazing. The cover looked amazing and I was excited to see it printed out because there were so many good stories and works in it,” said editor Emily Antesberger.
