In Lisa Adams’ Cosmetology class, students learn many aspects of the beauty field, including how to perfect one’s nail skills as a nail tech.Their nail skills are focused on shaping and creating intricate designs that enhance their skills. “I love practicing nails in this class because it gives me time to practice doing something I love,” said sophomore Gloryia Grooms.

Students have time to curl hair and blow dry it, enhancing their hair skills, and getting them ready for their future career as a stylist. Here, sophomore Sophia Brennan gives a mannequin a blow out by using a volume brush and blowing the air at an upward angle for maximum hair volume.

Cosmetology students don’t just work alone, but also together to create projects honing their skills. Students also must develop a keen eye for detail, and be creative to be successful in a beauty career. “We did a project on the color wheel and as a group, we made our color wheel into orange slices with twelve different colors,” said junior Aniyah Fitch pictured on the left with Sophie Brenan and Aleah Anderson to to right.

Cosmetology students learn hair stylist skills by practicing shampooing and scalp massage treatments on other students. “Getting my hair washed at school is so nice because I learn new skills, and I get my hair done by my friends,” said senior Ariana Tinsley, pictured above being shampooed by London Clark.

Before practicing on clients, students practice their designs on paper. A career in cosmetology is an exciting adventure and opens up many doors, Students may go on to become makeup artists, hair color specialists, estheticians, and nail technicians.
