Jonnay Grooms’ Culinary class is one of the most hands-on classes at FCHS. “Culinary really has enriched my love for cooking and deepened my palette, turning me into a better chef,” said junior Maddox Beaulieu. The Culinary program provides an opportunity to explore the cooking industry and learn about food. Time is spent mixing ingredients to create dishes ranging from cookies to spaghetti.

“My favorite part about Culinary is being able to express myself through food,” said junior Tramayne Minor. Here, students prepare a “Soul Food” theme meal. Students are trained to be neat and organized in their prep work, allowing for a more efficient cooking experience.

Students prepare pulled pork for Soul Food Week. “It was cool to experience all of the different steps involved in making the food. Culinary is definitely the perfect class for anyone who loves cooking and wants to cook during the school day,” said freshman Greg Ball.

Senior Zeke Johnson creates a peach cobbler. “Zeke stays downstairs in the Culinary room. He’s always cooking something. He made a really delicious cheesecake. I’m not going to lie,” said sophomore Quinton McCloud, a football teammate of Johnson’s.

For Soul Food Week, students prepared pulled pork, peach cobbler, cornbread, collard greens, mac and cheese, and pound cake. Students who successfully complete Culinary II and pass the Safeserve test will be prepared for a job as a line cook or prep cook.
