At the start of the 2025 school year, the Intro to Health and Medical class did not have a teacher. However, former Nurse Aide teacher and nurse Karen Green took over the class for those interested in a potential medical career. “This class is the foundation. It’s a solid introduction to the study of health care careers,” said Green.

Green provides worksheets and slideshows to study with. “I love it. I feel like I am learning the terms so well and it is really preparing me for a career in health and medical. I like how she goes over the work so I never feel completely lost,” said junior Ryllen Beasley.

The class is currently learning how to communicate through body language and words. Green teaches how to read others’ nonverbal communication, as if you were trying to understand a patient. “The activities are fun, especially when we got to act out our emotions. That was pretty funny,” said freshman Cheyanne Short.

“Nurse Green is always a great help when I feel confused, and she is great at explaining what to do and how to do it,” said freshman Jocelyn Hurd. Some students say the class can be hard, but that it is all worth it because they feel they’re learning.

The classroom itself is a departure of other classrooms, with many mannequins and various medical instruments around the room. Green likes to play music while students are working to make a quieter and peaceful classroom. “The classroom environment is very calming. I like how the class is set up,” said freshman Caroline Dahl.
