Teacher Russell Jennings’ Agriculture class offers hands-on learning for students who enjoy a break from traditional classes. “I love Jennings’ class because it’s different from regular classes and feels like a relief during the day,” said senior Claire Wishart. The class not only teaches about plants, but also life skills.

In class, there are endless activities keeping students busy. “My favorite part about this class is when Jennings tells me to fix random things. It’s a fun project for me and my friends to do because we learn something while having fun,” said senior Jackson Fields.

The class mainly focuses on horticulture and plant production, with the greenhouse playing a key role. “Normally we have about 10 computer assignments in a semester, and that’s the only time we sit down, so I like this class a lot. I love working with plants the most,” said senior Jessica Wyant.

The class maintains a big chicken coop with 14 hens, checking for eggs and ensuring the chickens have food and water. “The chickens are my favorite part of this class because it’s so fun holding them. I think it’s really cool that we sort of get to have pets at school,” said sophomore Alexander Childers.

One important aspect of AG class is Jennings’ role as the Fluvanna County FFA leader. There are many activities, especially for FFA officers. “I love his class because I’m an officer and I’ve had amazing experiences,” said senior Samantha Wills.
