Kicking Off A New Season
September 25, 2019
The FCHS Varsity football team recently kicked off their official 2019 season on Aug. 30 with a 29-13 win against Broadway. After this promising start, the Flucos couldn’t manage to win their second game against Spotsylvania on Sept. 6, losing 27-36. However, their Friday the 13th game against Nelson proved to be lucky, as the Flucos were able to pull together another win, this time 24-6.
Head Coach Mike Morris says that he feels pretty positive about the team’s performance over their first three games, adding that getting two wins was a positive start.
Morris said that going into their future games, the team plans on working on discipline and cutting back on penalties. The latter being one thing which has hurt them in the past two games. “With Spotsylvania, we had a lot of penalties on untimely situations, so they happened at times that were really, really bad for us,” said Morris.
According to Morris, a few players to watch for would be quarterback Kobe Edmonds, a junior, who Morris said has been doing a pretty good job running the offense. Adding that he has been throwing the ball better and running the ball pretty well. He also mentioned kicker Elijah Bullock, a senior, noting “He’s done pretty well kicking the ball, especially on kickoffs in the endzone.” Morris added that Bullock has “put the other team on the offense pretty deep and has played well on free safety, not giving up any long plays.” He also mentioned players such as seniors Malachi Hill, Walter Stribling, and Trevor Wade.
To see these players, along with the rest of the Flucos in action, be sure to see their next home game against Waynesboro on Sept. 27 at 7pm at RJ Searcy Stadium.
