Staff Defeat Students at Basketball Game
April 27, 2023
FCHS staff took the win in their first-ever Student vs. Staff basketball game on April 13, ending the game with a tight score of 52-49. Hosted by the Student Government Association (SGA), over 20 teachers and 40 students participated in this unprecedented event.
A member of the SGA board, junior Tina Jackson, said students seemed to enjoy the entire concept of the event. “I think it went great, even though it was our first time,” she said.
The game featured teachers such as Heath Bralley, Wiley House, Bryan Searcy, Makeisha Chambers, Amy Hill, Jason Davis, and Alex Frederick. Top scorers for the staff team were Zema, Bralley, Searcy, and House, while top scorers for the student team included Bobby Gardner, Benny Denby, Chazz Barksdale-White, and Conner Laven. The referees were senior Manny Nieves and Athletic Trainer Tyler Golden.
”I feel like the students were up, but the refs sold the game and the teachers ended up winning,” said junior Noah Beck, one of the spectators present during the game.
While the game was accessible to selected classes, many of its memorable moments were shared promptly on social media platforms and went beyond the gym.
“I think everyone went crazy when Bobby dunked on Bralley,” said SGA Board member Ariana Nolte.
Another notable play that students raved about was when Zema jumped over a student in the game and scored. When asked about his performance, Zema said it was “obviously a no brainer…100%.”
Although many students prior to the game said that there was no way staff could pull out the win, some staff members expressed their confidence. “All we do is win,” said Bralley.
