Medford League “Hooping” for a Strong Season

January 31, 2023

The FCHS Medford League began their winter season in January to the delight of Fluco fans who enjoy getting out to class to cheer on their team. The league consists of Special Education basketball teams, including one at FCHS. Their season includes eight daytime games, two nighttime games, and one tournament.

The FCHS team practices during the Adaptive PE class time during the school day, as well as when time and space is convenient for the players, which is often on Thursdays or Fridays.

Like almost everything does, being a part of the Medford League has its ups, one of which is support from fellow Fluco fans in the stands during games. “It is amazing to see the entire student body come together in support of the athletes,” said Medford Coach and Special Education teacher Nick Ward. “The enthusiasm, the confidence, the sportsmanship is absolutely amazing on the court and in the stands,” he added.

The most challenging part of playing a role in the Medford League can be “getting the gym all set up, making sure it is promoted within the school to the students, and for away games, making sure everything is lined up on the itinerary so everything goes smooth,” said Ward.

The Medford League season schedule is as follows:

Jan. 31 – HOME vs. Culpepper

Feb. 8 – @ Monticello

Feb. 14 –  HOME vs. Louisa

Feb. 21 – @Albemarle

Feb. 22 –  NIGHT GAME @ Orange

Feb. 28 –  HOME vs. Eastern View High School

March 1 – HOME NIGHT GAME vs. Orange
