Four Fun Local Activities to Participate in This Fall

October 5, 2021

As temperatures begin to drop and the leaves begin to change colors, many teenagers may be looking for fun activities to make this fall memorable. Here in Virginia, there are many places to enjoy the fun fall scenery.

Carter Mountain Orchard

Many local residents know that when fall rolls around, the pictures from Carter Mountain Orchard come with it. While this is definitely a trendy place for fall, there is a reason. Whether you are looking to buy a pumpkin to carve, pick some apples, or just enjoy the scenery, this is the place for you.

So, grab some friends or family, and visit their website to plan your next visit. Don’t forget to get a fan-favorite apple cider donut and take some pictures for Instagram while you’re there!

Skyline Drive

Skyline Drive is a National Scenic Byway that runs for 105 miles along the Blue Ridge Mountains. This is a top-rated destination in the fall because of its view of the colorful foliage. You can hike or take a leisurely drive and enjoy the scenery. Learn more about Skyline Drive here.

Humpback Rock Hike

If you’re looking for a little physical activity to go along with views of the fall foliage, then hiking might be the option for you. Humpback Rock is a popular hiking spot in the fall, and for a good reason.

The hike is around 4.3 miles total, and many FCHS students have found that the view from the top is entirely worth it, as well as a great place to take Instagram photos. Go to this website to get some more information and don’t forget to take some pictures at the top.

Fruit Hill Orchard

For an even more local option that a surprising number of Fluvanna residents might overlook, stop by Fruit Hill Orchard. This orchard, located just a few minutes from the high school, is open from 10-6 Monday through Saturday.

Stop by to pick some apples, choose a pumpkin to carve, or just to spend some quality time outside. Visit their website here to get more information and plan your visit.
