Fluco Interact’s New Beginning

March 18, 2021

FCHS has a wide variety of clubs and organizations. One club in particular has been very active during this unique school year. Interact club is sponsored by Mark Engel and has been helping the community for seven years. ¨The Interact Club gives students the opportunity to help their community and develop a sense of pride in what they do outside of the classroom. By helping feed people locally and internationally, reaching out to local businesses and leaders of the community, as well as making our school a better place we are making an impact and making a difference in peoples’ lives,¨ said Engel.

Just talking about the 2020-2021 school year projects, the Interact club has organized a food drive, crafted care baskets for first responders, and taken part in a local trunk or treat. Because ¨trunk or treats being cancelled due to Covid-19, we knew it was a great opportunity to safely host one. When we started planning the event we knew it was imperative to have volunteers. It was wonderful to have volunteers from Interact Club there to represent the high school crowd,” said Allison Brown, owner of Crossing Brook Farm where the trunk or treat took place.

Interact has organized many fundraisers and activities to help the community with help from Engel. There are also board members who work alongside him to organize and lead the club. The current board members, all juniors, are Emily Brobbey, Evelyn Benson, Ellie White, Ava Amato, and Anne Robinson. This is Amato and Benson’s second year serving board members. ¨I’m so excited to serve on the Interact board again this year. Even with Covid, we are going to make the best of our circumstances,” said Amato.

This year has many challenges, but the FCHS interact club has learned to persevere. Social media has played a big role in keeping the club active by helping them communicate and updating them with changing information.
