Walking for a Cause
November 8, 2019
Every October in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, FCHS holds an annual walk on the football field track to raise funds and awareness for local breast cancer support groups. Coordinated by teachers Christine Kreitzman and Linda Harding, and the students in their Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) club, this year’s walk took place on Oct. 29 for the last hour of school.
By purchasing a $2 ticket, students were given the opportunity to walk around the track, eat food for purchase produced by FBLA and the Culinary Arts classes, and spend time with their friends.
This year, FBLA sold around 460 tickets. All told, they raised over $900 for breast cancer awareness.
Half of the profit from ticket sales will go to Project ASK, an organization supported by Virginia FBLA, which helps children and their families who have cancer at VCU. The other half of the money raised will go to the Virgina Breast Cancer Foundation in Richmond.
If you would like to learn more about these organizations, you can do so at http://www.askccf.org/ (Project ASK) or https://www.vbcf.org/ (VBCF)
FBLA is a club which is designed for those interested in entering the business field. They plan events like the walk, send “refocus bands” in the winter, and also compete in the spring at the regional and state level. The clubs meets every other Tuesday during Fluco Focus in the Cafeteria.
