High School Wins 6th W!SE Award

2019-20 Economics and Personal Finance Teachers: Gary Greenwood, Darren McCauley, and Christine Kreitzman

For the sixth consecutive year, Fluvanna County High School has earned the Blue Star School Award for W!SE Financial Literacy. The school earned an 86 percent pass rate on this test, with 235 high school students earning the credential during the 2018-19 school year.

The high school administered the W!SE certification test in the 2013-2014 school year for the first time. Since then, it has has been administered annually, and each year, it has won the award. The teachers who administer the test at FCHS are Career and Technical Education (CTE0 teachers Christine Kreitzman, Gary Greenwood, and Darren McCauley.

“I am so proud of the work our teachers did to get this program started. The students demonstrated their understanding of the importance of financial literacy. It is so exciting to be among the best schools in the country,” stated Ms. Brenda Gilliam, Executive Director for Instruction and Finance.

Working In Support of Education (W!SE) is an educational 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides educational support services across the nation, building financial literacy, fostering business and social entrepreneurship, and preparing students for college and the global workplace. 

In addition to earning the Blue Star School Award, teachers Gary Greenwood and Christine Kreitzman earned the Gold Star Teacher Award. To be a candidate for the Gold Star Award, a teacher must have achieved a 93 percent passing rate in either the Fall 2018 or the Spring 2019 W!SE Financial Literacy Certification Test.
