Wallen’s “One Thing At A Time” Tour

Have you ever thought of what it might be like to be a top charting country artist? For Morgan Wallen, this is a reality. This famous American country singer and songwriter was born May 13, 1993, and raised in Sneedville, Tennessee. Music was not always his focus. In fact, in high school, his passion was baseball. He had plans to play baseball at the college level, but an arm injury changed his trajectory.

His musical roots began as a child when he often sang in his church. He once stated in an interview, “My mom would just throw me up on stage.” He also gave credit to his mother for putting him on The Voice, a talent-seeking TV series. He explained that he “didn’t know what it was,” and had “never even heard of it,” but claimed that he would go if his mom would drive him to St. Louis. Although he did not win first place, he has continued to make quite a name for himself since then.

After singing on The Voice, Wallen signed a record deal with Big Loud Records and released his debut single “The Way I Talk” in 2016. He has since released several hit singles, including “Up Down,” “Whiskey Glasses,” and “More Than My Hometown,” which have all reached the top of the Billboard Country Airplay chart.

Wallen has released three albums, with his first hit single being “If I Know Me.” His next record breaker was “Dangerous: The Double Album” in 2021, which contained three chart-topping hits, including “Wasted On You,” “More Than My Hometown,” and “Sand In My Boots.”

Despite his success, Wallen has also faced some controversy. In February of 2021, a video surfaced on social media of him using a racial slur, which resulted in widespread condemnation and consequences, including his record label suspending his contract and several radio stations boycotting his music. Wallen has since apologized for his actions and stated that he is “working to become a better person.”

Despite that obstacle, Wallen has returned to the airways and has recently released his third studio album, titled “One Thing At A Time.” This album boasts 36 new songs all written by Wallen and with the help of some of his closest friends and mentors, including HARDY, Ernest, and Eric Church, to name a few. The “One Thing At A Time” tour kicked off shortly after the release of his album on March 3, 2023, and included international venues like New Zealand and Australia.

Wallen’s fans have proven to be some of the most dedicated fans in country music, I feel that his down-to-earth and humble roots are partially the reason he has gained such popularity. I have seen Wallen in concert two times and look forward to seeing him again this summer. As for the two times I’ve seen him already, it’s such a surreal but incredible experience. I was in the pit the second time I saw him and seeing my favorite singer not even ten feet away from me was such an unexplainable feeling; it’s safe to say I cried a lot.

In my opinion, the “Dangerous” album will never be topped from anything else Wallen releases, not only because of the songs, but because this album is what made his reputation explode. “One Night At A Time” is also a great album though, it’s making a lot of people’s music tastes change.

“I hate country music, but Morgan Wallen has definitely changed my opinion. I love some of his songs,” said FCHS sophomore Kayli Presnell.

The song “7 Summers” holds a special place in my heart because it was the first song of Wallen’s that I ever heard. It was December of 2020 and I remember immediately going to look for more of his music. Since then, he’s been my favorite singer, and will always be.

You can stream Wallen’s new album and all of his other music on Spotify, Apple Music, Soundcloud, and more.
