Back to High School

Proving that it can be hard to leave “the Flu,” former FCHS student Ashleigh Goode has stepped back into high school as a teacher instead of as a student. Goode is now living out her dreams as a teacher and softball coach at FCHS. Since graduating from Fluvanna seven years ago, her life has changed significantly. “Since high school, I’ve earned my master’s degree in special education, moved out on my own, and gotten married,” she said.
Teaching has always been a passion for Goode, as ever since high school she has wanted to be a teacher at Fluvanna. “It may sound corny, but it’s like a dream come true. Ever since I was in high school I used to say that I wanted nothing more than to come back to teach and coach at Fluvanna. It’s so funny to look back now and actually see my dream become a reality, but it was what I always wanted to do,” said Goode.
Seeing students learn and grow is everything to Goode. She loves seeing her students go above and beyond to achieve what she knows they can. “I enjoy working with kids. I want to see them do well and I want to help motivate them to be the best people they can be,” she said.
Since getting married in November of 2017, she and her husband, 2013 FCHS graduate Devin Goode, have welcomed their first child, Carter, who was on June 8. “Having Carter here has been the best, and I love nothing more than being his mom,” said Goode.
Becoming a mother has impacted her life greatly. “Once you have a kid, it opens your eyes to so many things and changes the way you think about things and how you may approach certain things in life. Carter has been the best thing that’s happened to me,” said Goode.
Family means a lot to Goode, so once she was married and moved out, she faced a big adjustment. “Not seeing my parents and siblings everyday was definitely a game changer for me, and it wasn’t easy for me in the beginning,” she explained.
Balancing being a wife, mom, teacher, and visiting with her family hasn’t been easy, especially since so many changes have happened all at once. “Devin and I were an amazing team before having Carter, but throwing him in the mix of everything changed my life in so many different ways. Waking up and seeing his sweet face keeps me going on the hardest of days,” she said.
