You might remember Kyrsten Patterson from two years ago when this FCHS junior was only in eighth grade. She left Fluvanna for two years to go to Calvary Christian School (CCS), but now she’s back to being a Fluco.

Established in 1990, CCS is a small, private Christian school in Norfolk, Virginia. They offer all grades from prekindergarten-12th, and their enrollment is about 176 students. With 13 teachers, CCS has a 14:1 student-to-teacher ratio and an average class size of 12 students. So moving back to Fluvanna, where the student population is over 1,400 students, and class sizes can be 30 students or more, has been an adjustment for Patterson.

Patterson said she enrolled at CCS in order to play on their volleyball team, so when she returned to FCHS, she decided to try out for the volleyball team here, too. “I just wanted to have an experience on a team like the one at Fluvanna,” she said.

Her switch paid off, as she made the Fluvanna team. Now, she is in her fifth year of playing volleyball. When she isn’t spiking or serving, she enjoys working at Fork Union Pharmacy, singing in the choir, and playing the guitar.

Patterson hopes to continue with volleyball throughout her high school career. She has worked hard to get where she is, and despite all the changes, she loves where she has ended up.
