Men in Shorts

Men+in+Shorts

Every year, FCHS holds their annual Macho Man tournament, a men’s volleyball tournament where the men wear short shorts and their female coaches do their best to give them advice. It’s a rowdy event where teams from the different classes compete to see which class rules on the court– and which class can collect the most spirit points. The event will take place on April 1 during a pep rally in the Main Gym after the conclusion of Hands on Fluvanna.

Madison Stafford has been a class officer for this event ever since she was in 8th grade. Starting on March 16, she will be working with the Sophomore Class team to help them practice for the upcoming tournament. Their main competition may be last year’s  Sophomores– now Juniors– who were victorious during last year’s Macho Man tournament. Colby Deforge, who was a part of the Sophomore Class team last year, said he believes that the Junior team has a really good chance this time around.

In fact, one of the Junior Class coaches this year will be Junior Cassie Kingsley. As with Stafford, this isn’t Kingsley’s first time helping out with this event, as she was also a coach last year. According to Kingsley, coaching guys is a lot harder then coaching girls. “Not all of them will listen to our advice,” she said.

Some feel that one of the highlight’s from last year’s Macho Man was seeing the Sophomore team in their bright pink shorts and matching bandannas. The choice of attire was something “that was decided between both the team members and coaches,” said Kingsley, while adding that Flucos shouldn’t expect to see the Juniors in pink again this year.
