End-of-the-Year Sports Wrap Up

Here’s some late-breaking news for how two Fluco sports teams ended the season:

Track

The Fluco track and field team had incredible success at the Regional II track championships on May 22rd.  The team finished 6th, one point from tying for 4th.  Several boys continued to the AA state meet on May 31 and June 1.  Blake Hills was competing in high jump, Keiondre Key in discus and shot put, Terrell Key in triple jump, Chris Markham in the 3200 meter run, Nate Szarmach in discus, Chance Parmly in pole vault, Devin Goode in discus, Karel Bruce in the 100m run, and the relay team of Jesse Vandyke, Rasaad Bruce, Terrell Key and Karel Bruce.

The boys track team was excited enough to gift their coach a cowboy hat and a Batman cape. “I think they just walked through Walmart buying things,” said Coach Tom Casto.

Soccer

The boys’ JV soccer team also finished a successful season, making it to 3rd in the Jefferson District Tournament after losing to Western Albemarle High School 0-1 on May 23.  “This season was a good one, I did really well.  I give myself an eight out of ten and I give the season an eight out of ten,” said player Nikolai Jackson.  “Mostly I remember the bus rides, which were long and sometimes wet,” said Jackson.

The Varsity team performed equally well, making it to the Region II Tournament and losing to Potomac Falls 2-3 on May 27.  While Dale Ludwig nearly saved the game with his two goals, it was not enough.  On the May 28 the season came to a close with a sports banquet.
