And the Crown Goes to…

February 19, 2020

While you may be familiar with the Miss Fluvanna pageant, the annual beauty pageant open to all the teenage girls in Fluvanna County, this year, the students of Fluvanna County High School are being introduced to something a little different.

The BETA Club is putting together a pageant for the boys of FCHS called “Mr. FCHS.” The boys who enter the pageant will go perform in a multi-part competition which will include evening gown, talent, speech, and swim suit portions. Before taking the stage, a group of girls will help the boys get ready in order to help them look their very best. Senior Logan Brophy, BETA Club Secretary, said the club was looking for a fun event and thought that bringing back the Mr. FCHS pageant, which hadn’t been done in three years, would be a good idea.

So far, junior Jacob Collier is the only one who has entered the pageant. But senior Evynne Stafford, a member of the BETA Club, said that they expect other students such as seniors Brandon Lucas, Bradley Holtz, and Nathan Mentor to enter the competition as well.

The winner of the pageant will be determined by staff members and the event will likely be held in March on a Friday. The entrance fee will be $3 with the proceeds going to either BETA Club funds or a local charity.

After the 2019 Miss Fluvanna pageant was cancelled due to lack of interest, with only three girls signing up, there is hope that Mr. FCHS pageant will be a bigger success. Stay tuned to the announcements for more information about when the event will be held.

Editor’s Note: On March 9, BETA Club announced that the event had been cancelled due to concerns that it might be considered “offensive.”
