FCHS Student Resource Officer Lacorie Steppe is holding two different camps for students and others interested in law enforcement and camping activities. The two camps are the Virginia Rules Camp, which will take place this summer, and the Explorer’s Camp.

The goal of the camps is to provide an easy way to learn about aspects of law enforcement, as well as to give local students exposure to a camping environment.

Both of the camps, which have not yet set dates, will run for one week, letting participants enjoy a variety of fun, camp-related activities such as canoeing, mountain biking, and day trips to Kings Dominion and Water Country USA.

In addition, the camps will also provide participants with a safe place to learn more about what police officers do on a daily basis. Campers will learn integral parts of being a police officer such as defensive driving strategies, learning how to defend yourself, and even firearms training.

Participants will also gain a deeper look into how the law system works, with hands-on experience in a mock investigation, tours of the agency’s emergency communications center, and information into the workings of the court system.

Officer Steppe says both camps are currently looking for sponsors, volunteers, and donations before setting dates and cost. There will be a limit of 25 participants until more details can be solidified.
