Got an F? Forget that Dance!

If you’ve been ho-hum about grades in the past, you may want to rethink things. The FCHS administration has decided to make dances more of a privilege than in years past. Starting this year, in order to attend a dance at FCHS students must be passing all of their classes. By making dances an honor for those who succeed academically, the administration hopes to give students more of an incentive to push themselves that extra mile.

“I like the new dance policy. It teaches the kids to strive for higher standards,” said staff member Michelle Coleman.

The new dance policy will be in effect for all the dances at FCHS this school year. “I believe that the policy is completely feasible. It teaches students to achieve their goals,” said junior Abbey Neifert. Students who are failing one or more of their classes will be ineligible to purchase a ticket to the dance. Grades will be pulled two to three weeks prior to the dance to determine who can or cannot attend. There will be no exemptions for students who are failing courses.

“I really like the new rule. I think it shows students that they have to work hard for privileges. Go Flucos!” said staff member Jason Davis. If students believe that the list is wrong or they have pulled their grade up recently, immediate clarification from an administrator will be needed before they can buy a ticket.

Administration hopes that the policy will give students that extra boost to exceed in school while rewarding them for their actions. So will dance attendance numbers dwindle? Or  will students rise to the challenge?

The first school dance will be the Homecoming dance which is scheduled for November 2. So students, when classes get tough and decisions need to be made, think about this: Do you want to be holding that golden ticket to the dance? Or sitting at home alone wishing you could attend?
