Call Me If You Get Lost Makes Its Mark

October 1, 2021

Call Me If You Get Lost ( CMIYGL ) is Tyler, The Creator’s sixth studio album released on June 25, 2021. This album has features from 42 Dugg, Lil Uzi Vert, Pharrell, Lil Wayne, and more. Tyler has the help of DJ Drama as his hype man in the beginning or end of most songs on the album.  CMIYGL debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 last dated on July 10, 2021.

Tyler, The Creator likes to play a character in each of his albums, so in CMIYGL, Tyler is playing a character named Tyler Baudelaire. The album is centered around the theme of loss and yearning. Tyler’s music can swing from very aggressive to soft and simply tells a story, which most of his songs do. I would say his new album is excellent and a side of him that his fans haven’t heard yet.

The top song from the album is WUSYANAME ( feat. YoungBoy Never Broke ). It’s a good song and catchy, but I think there should be more top songs coming from this album, like MANIFESTO, WILSHIRE, and LUMBERJACK.

The whole album is amazing and would be great for anyone who likes songs with a story behind them or simply upbeat music. There are a variety of themes on the album; some songs are about love from Tyler’s perspective and racial injustice.

“It was pretty good, but his other albums were better,” said Junior Jakai Reid.  I would have to agree with Reid that. Tyler’s other albums, like Flower Boy (2017), have more hit songs than CMIYGL. But it is an older album and I guess we’ll have to wait for some time to see if his new album will get more hits.

Tyler does a fantastic job of including different sounding songs that go together and have relatable content. Tyler is passionate about what he creates for his audience. He went from Igor (2019), which was very deep, personal, and poetic, to CMIYGL that has all of the different genres in each song.

Overall my opinion of the album is a 10/10. I would have to say my favorite songs from the album will have to be LEMONHEAD, JUGGERNAUT, and RUNITUP.  I will always be satisfied with what he decides to release. He will always switch up his flow and what he raps about, so I will continue listening to him.
