A Local Way to Get Gorgeous

October 12, 2017

If you’re looking for new outfit or special fashion find, but don’t want to pay high prices, here’s a relatively local way to get gorgeous.

Hey Gorgeous is a consignment boutique in Louisa County run by Eleanor Perkinson that opened in August of 2014. Located near Floozies Pie Shop, Bailey’s Drugstore, and Obrigado’s, this boutique is an important small business; it keeps revenue local and gives residents a place for personalized shopping attention that can’t be found in chain stores.

In addition, the clothes are higher quality than what you’d find at Goodwill, and include unique or name-brand clothes from brands such as Eddie Bauer, Kate Spade, H&M, Anthropologie, White House Black Market, Chico’s, Ralph Lauren, Urban Outfitters, and more, for much cheaper prices than in regular department stores.

Another plus is that since Perkinson runs the boutique almost entirely herself, she tends to form close relationships with her customers, getting to know their styles and giving recommendations about purchases.

Shopping consignment stores like Hey Gorgeous not only saves money and helps the local economy, it also lets you do your part to help the environment. The consignment set-up cuts down on the amount of cast-off clothes piling up in landfills, which becomes a more pressing problem each year. In fact, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reported that 84% of unwanted clothes in the US in 2012 ended up in landfills or incinerators.

All of the items at Hey Gorgeous start at a fixed price, normally between $8 and $22, and after a month they are marked down. After two months on the rack they generally reach their lowest price, normally between $3 and $10. You can find shoes, jewelry, and all types of clothing articles for prices normally between $5 and $15.

Hey Gorgeous also offers holiday sales or themes; for example, for the Fourth of July, Perkinson put out a rack of red, white, and blue clothes, including a high-quality bright red raincoat. Hey Gorgeous is an ideal place to go dress shopping, especially around Homecoming and Prom. If you want to sell your own clothes, Perkinson takes high quality consignment items by appointment.

The store is chic and welcoming, with a wide variety of sizes and styles for shoppers. Perkinson has based the boutique on Audrey Hepburn and has inspirational quotes decorating the walls, as well as pictures of the famous actress. One unique thing about Hey Gorgeous is its unusual sizing, which substitutes regular sizes like 2-18 in favor of encouraging words like “Stupendous” for small and “Luxurious” for extra large.

The shopping hours for Hey Gorgeous are 10am-6pm Tues-Fri, and 10am-4pm on Saturdays. The store is located at 105 W. Main Street in Louisa.

Check out their Facebook page (called “Hey Gorgeous”), or find them on Instagram under the account heygorgbot.  You can contact Perkinson at (540) 967-0619 or email her at [email protected].
