Top 5 Spring Fashion Trends

It almost spring, time to retire those bulky sweaters, and whip out your warm-weather attire. This year’s Spring fashion trends were inspired by the bold color schemes of the 70’s, classic patterns and prints and geometric designs that are sure to have you looking like a million bucks. Here’s what you can expect to see in stores and in FCHS hallways in the next few weeks.

  1. Out with the old, In with the OLD?

The 70’s are making a huge comeback in spring of 2015. Expect billowy silhouettes and lots of fringe. You can keep the bell-bottom pants tucked away in your closet, but be sure to look out for the paisley prints and rainbow patchwork because classic “Hippy fashion” is the inspiration for many of this year’s designers. The color scheme of this trend will turn from the normal pastel shades we’ve all grown to love to mustard yellow, hunter green, harvest gold, and deep Earth tones which can never go out of style. This year’s subtle ode to one of the most popular fashion decades is sure to trail through to the end of the year.

  1. “Statement Stripes”

Stripes are not a new concept to the fashion industry, and this year’s men’s fashion designers created many statement pieces to satisfy the masses. Stripes have grown from the cute patterns you see on children at the playground to dramatic prints that pop up on tailored suits, dress shirts and pants. While horizontal stripes may strike fear into the hearts of many, fashionbeans.com offers this advice: “Horizontal stripes tend to make you look wider by breaking up the vertical silhouette, while vertical stripes draw the eye down quickly, giving the illusion of length/height.” Statement Stripes may be a huge trend in men’s fashion, but whether you’re a guy or a girl, you can always make this trend work to your advantage.

  1. Gingham?

It’s back! (But did it ever leave?) One of Fluvanna’s favorite traditions showcases this trend…Lumberjack Friday. Not to be confused with plaid, gingham is often associated with the classic “picnic table pattern” that was most famously modeled by Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz. This trend has floated around from season to season, rearing its head once more in Spring 2015. According to Elle.com, “Gingham is the print of 2015.” The classic pastel colors of spring make their comeback in this trend. Expect gingham statement coats, skirts, and even shoes.

  1. Casual and Comfy Footwear

Shoes are often a staple piece for designers on the runway, and thankfully, casual footwear is here to stay. Expect lots of ballet flats, strappy sandals and sneakers. White sneakers, more specifically, were seen being paraded around Fashion Week. The main tip to rock this trend is to keep them clean.

  1. Dare-Devil Denim

This spring, expect tons of denim clothing pieces. Jean skirts, shirts, rompers and jackets are emerging once again as the weather begins to warm up. Hemlines are being taken up and out, bringing the silhouette of the classic “boyfriend jean” into Spring 2015. Unique patterns and designs were also a hot trend on the runway this year from designers such as Tommy Hilfiger and Dolce & Gabbana showcasing their take on the trend through their use of studs, gems and dramatic patchwork. Denim is being knocked up a few notches, perfect for those people looking to subtly switch up their look this spring.
