Lexi Demers is not only a senior at Fluvanna County High School, she is also a role model to many young girls. Demers is not one to just give up; when she wants something she really goes for it.

Demers is no ordinary student. Besides being an honor student, she is also the president of the school’s Student Government Association (SGA). Students in SGA are the ones that run the schools activities, such as pep rallies and dances. As president, Demers is in charge of making all these events happen on time. For example, when all the students were at home getting ready for Homecoming, Demers was at the school with other SGA members getting the cafeteria ready for the dance.

“Hustle beats talent, when talent doesn’t hustle,” is a phrase Demers likes to share with younger students. From the time she gets up in the morning until she goes to bed, this is what motivates her to do so well in everything. She will always put people before herself. After school, instead of going straight home, she takes time out of her day to tutor kids that are struggling with school. Not only is she helping kids at school, but she helps her younger brother, Bryce, as well. “Lexi is one of the most honest people I know,” he said.

A number of girls also look up to Demers when she’s pushing herself on the soccer field, where she helps the younger age group in the FYSA soccer league improve their game skills. She continues to do this during JV and Varsity season as well. “She’s one of the hardest working and dedicated players that I’ve ever seen,” said Mark Engle, the girls’ JV soccer coach. Demers never stops believing. The scoreboard could say 7-0 but she would be the last person to give up. “If you mess up, then fix it, don’t just get upset and walk away,” is something that Demers tells the girls when they’re ready to quit.

All these features are what makes Demers’ personality shine the most. It’s not about being perfect, it’s about showing your true self in front of others. Demers’ said one of her favorite quotes is by Juma Ikangaa, a famous marathon runner:  “To win means nothing without the will to prepare.”  Demers believes this quote by Juma is important to live by because it shows that the only way to success is preparing yourself in the process.
