Inspired by the true story and set in the 1830’s, The Greatest Showman tells the true story of P.T. Barnum. Poor and down-on-his-luck after his job goes bankrupt, Barnum creates the Barnum & Bailey Circus, a show where unique individuals are put in the spotlight and are able to show off their incredible talents. While both the circus itself and its performers are seen by many as disgraceful and are looked down upon.

When first hearing about this movie, and when I checked out the previews, I wasn’t interested in The Greatest Showman in the least, except for the fact that it stars Hugh Jackman, one of my favorite authors. But the more I learned of this movie, I became even more interested in checking it out. I’m incredibly glad that I did.

I’m not really a fan of musicals, but the film managed to keep my attention every scene after scene. And since this is a musical after all, I should probably talk about the soundtrack first.

Wow.

Every single song in this film was amazing and full of so much power and heart, something I’ve never seen in a musical, or any film. My personal favorite is “A Million Dreams,” which is filled with emotion. Meanwhile, the visuals for the circus scenes and the dance numbers are stunning to watch and beautiful to look at, with each scene bursting with color and energy.

The acting is also just as powerful as the music, with Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, and Zendaya Helming, the lead performers, bringing most of the heartfelt scenes to the screen. This is one of the finest films of Jackman’s career, and I’d rank it up there alongside Logan. He makes it an Oscar-worthy role.

I urge anyone to see this film, even if musicals aren’t your thing, I guarantee you’ll be singing along, tapping your foot, and just having a great time watching.

The Greatest Showman is a phenomenal, powerful, even inspiring film, with a fast pace, beautiful visuals, superb acting, and easily the best soundtrack of 2017. I give this movie a 10 out of 10.
