Track and field is an activity that takes a lot of practice, hard work, and dedication. It’s a competitive sport that demands athletes reach for nothing but the best in each event. The activity starts every year towards the end of the February, and easing back into the season is not an easy thing to do, particularly if you want to gain back all the confidence, motivation, and from last season.

As a result, it’s important that you stay motivated year-round to stay in shape and maintain your commitment. If you slack during time where you could be preparing yourself mentally and physically, you may not only undermine your own performance, but your team’s as well.

“I’m very excited for this year. Hopefully, I’ll get better at my events and help take my team get to States this year,” said Freshman Jules Shepherd.

So here are a few tips for getting ready for track season, as well as for making your season the best one possible.

Staying hydrated at all times is important. According to www.familydoctor.org, staying hydrated helps transports nutrients to give you energy and keep you healthy. If you’re not properly hydrated, your body can’t perform at its highest level.

Always maintaining a healthy diet is another good way to be ready for track. “Staying in shape with volleyball and eating healthy,” is what Sophomore Savannah Quinn does to prepare for track season. As noted on www.fitness.gov, good nutrition is an important part of leading a healthy lifestyle. Combined with physical activity, your diet can help you to reach and maintain a healthy weight, and promote your overall health.

Meanwhile, going for short runs and stretching regularly will prevent painful injuries like tendonitis and shin splints before your season gets going.

“I recently just started working out with my friend. I work out with her for extra motivation,” said Sophomore Kaleka Garrison. Having a positive mindset and lots of confidence is also key. Telling yourself “I can do this,” and “I will do better than I did in the past” will allow your self-confidence to rise and eventually, can have a positive effect on your performance.

It takes a lot of time and patience to become a good athlete when it comes to track. No one becomes great overnight, but exercising, staying in shape, eating healthy, and being self-confident are good ways to prepare. Your body and your team wiill thank you.
